When it comes to making affordable but highly effective smart home security cameras, few can compare to Ring. This manufacturer boasts of some of the best home security products like the Ring Alarm, Ring Video Doorbell 2, and Ring Stick Up Cam Wired. However, at around $60, the Ring Indoor Security Camera is by far the company’s cheapest product. But don’t be fooled because the Ring Indoor Camera System packs all the features to take your home security to the next level. So, let’s not dilly-dally much and find out what this camera has in store for us.

Design

The Ring Indoor Camera borrows its design from the Ring Stick Up Cam, just that it’s a bit smaller. Also, it doesn’t have the Stick Up’s weather or battery sealing, so you can’t use it as Ring Indoor Outdoor Camera system by any means. On a brighter note, this design helps it take up minimal on-shelf or wall mounting space. And similar to other Ring’s cameras, it includes a base for seamless positioning on the back or bottom of the cam. This will give your multiple mounting options. Overall, the design is relatively straightforward, with zero fancy extras.

Setting Up

Setting up the Ring Indoor Cam is quick and easy. In fact, it will cost you less than five minutes once you decide where to place it around the room. After mounting it successfully, you can install the Ring app on your Android or iOS and choose “add a new device” before selecting the Indoor Cam. On the cam’s back, you’ll also see a QR code, which you’ll scan to connect the device to Wi-Fi effortlessly.

During the setup, you’ll see the notification and privacy settings for customizing your device accordingly. For example, you can decide what the LED does when using the camera, turn off live view, or even decide who can use the camera. Even more impressive, this camera allows you to set up Motion Zones where the cam can pick up activities in your room. This is an excellent way of ensuring that you don’t get those annoying notifications each time your cat passes by.

Video Quality

At night, this camera will automatically enable the IR lights to give you a Black & White image. This might soften out the pictures further and blur some details. Nonetheless, it’s easy enough to scroll through the footage and see anything caught on the camera.

It also goes without forgetting that the Ring Indoor offers a night color mode. In this case, you’ll get a nice blend of ambient light and IR for full-color night vision. Keep in mind, though, that the overall image quality depends on the amount of ambient light in the room.

Audio Quality

No matter your intended use for the Ring Indoor Camera Wireless, I’m pretty sure that you’ll appreciate the two-way audio it offers. Like most home security cameras, it features a microphone and speaker for letting you talk to whoever your camera is pointed at remotely. So, the next time the delivery guy comes knocking at your door, you can use this camera to tell them where to place the package.

Voice Assistant

Because Amazon owns Ring, it’s only logical that this indoor camera is Alexa compatible. With the Alexa integration, you’ll instantly know when your camera has detected motion, speak via the two-way audio system, and even ask Alexa for live or past footage via your Echo Spot or Echo Show. It also supports Google Assistant.

Performance

The overall performance of this cam is top-notch, to say the least. The captured sound and images are of excellent quality and can be shared via social media, email, or even downloaded to your device. Account sharing with family members is also allowed, so they can easily view the camera footage. On the free plan, you’ll enjoy 24 hours of free footage, although you can subscribe to unlock additional storage space.

As I’ve said earlier, Ring Indoor Cam has a modest price tag of $59.99 on most online stores. It joins the crowded market with big names such as the Arlo Pro 3 and Nest Cam Indoor. Therefore, Ring is banking not only on the price tag but also its wealth of features and simple connectivity. For instance, its design flexibility allows you to place it anywhere around your home - either on the table or wall mounting.

The Bottom Line

The Ring Indoor Security Camera is another evidence of the company’s ever-expanding list of home security products. This cam might be cheap, but it’s doesn’t sacrifice features and performance in any way. I, in particular, like how flexible and customizable this unit is around the house. And, the setup is fairly easy too, thanks to the flexible mounting options and the app’s video tutorials. Definitely a great steal!
